about

"In Autumn Volume 1" represents the third such release in the ongoing project of making the audio from my YouTube flute videos available. This particular (huge!) collection of flute songs has been on my mind for release for quite a while, and I ended up dividing it into three volumes due to the, uh, VOLUME of material. Many of these tunes were in fact recorded in my favorite season of autumn, but even those that were not manage to convey a certain distinctive autumnal melancholy - hence their inclusion here. You are welcome to download all of these tracks for free. The total time for this particular volume is 72:34. That of course means the whole thing can be accommodated on a single CD-R if you're a CD-R-type person.

As with the previous releases in this series, a complete download includes a pdf file that lists the flutes used on each track.

This three-volume project was quite a time-consuming one to get to the finished stage (though I really do love doing this sort of thing), so as with previous releases, please do consider donating something if you enjoy what you hear and can afford to do so!

All of the audio in this release has been extracted from improvisations I recorded on video between 2009 and 2010 in the city of Chuncheon in South Korea and posted on my YouTube channel. All of these recordings were made in the great outdoors, so my numerous Native American-style flutes are often accompanied by wind, running water, rustling leaves, barking dogs, passing traffic, birds, and assorted insects. These are for the most part unobtrusive and often add a pleasing liveliness to the atmosphere that no studio environment could ever hope to provide. To ensure a more pleasurable listening experience, minor editing has been done to remove unwanted noises wherever possible, and the stereo field has been expand slightly.

Stereo audio source: Canon Power Shot SX20 IS digital camera recording in HD mode on tracks 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 11, 14, 15, 19, 20, 21, 23, 26, 29, and 30. Track 25 was recorded in mono on my friend Kim Hyeong-il's iPhone. All the rest were captured monaurally on a Canon Power Shot A650 IS and enhanced to simulate stereo.
