When Morning Comes

by Allen Bruce Ray

about

This is a song I've had since around 2002. It started with the 12-string acoustic guitar riff that opens the song and appears throughout. The melody was originally composed on a keyboard, but later I found I could play it on Native American flute. There are in fact 6 such flutes in this song: a Laughing Crow claro walnut Em (main melody & counter melody), Laughing Crow Western cedar F#m, Butch Hall Eastern cedar Dm, High Spirits Kestrel birch high Dm and high Em, and a High Spirits birch Whitetail Hawk Bm.

For lack of a better description, this is a sort of faux-classical pop / folk rock song in a style somewhat reminiscent of the Moody Blues. In other words, it's not at all the sort of thing you'd expect to hear from a Native American flute, but there you go!
