Spring Ritual

from In The Great Outdoors by Allen Bruce Ray

/

about

This song, like nearly every other song on the album, is a re-creation of an improvisation that happened spontaneously. The flute used here was gifted to me in 2012 by its maker, Dwight Lind, a.k.a. Quiet Bear (now retired). It is in the key of C minor and is made of Alaskan yellow cedar. The block on this flute is actually a piece of a deer's antler.

This was played at 134 bpm in 4/4 time. Real-time percussion includes an 18-inch Featherridge frame drum, a 15-inch frame drum, and a Kokopelli shaker made of walnut.
