At October's End

from In The Great Outdoors by Allen Bruce Ray

/

about

The original improvisation under the same title happened in 2010 near, well, the end of October. I've always remembered how good this one felt as it came into being, so I have endeavored to faithfully reproduce it here along with some simple and - I hope - effective percussion. The voice of this tune is my trusty Laughing Crow A minor flute in Eastern aromatic cedar. This very instrument is the one that started me on my journey and taught me everything I needed to learn about playing the Native American-style flute. Richard Maynard, your instruments are exquisite. Thanks again!

The tune is performed in 3/4 time at 91 bpm and includes an 18-inch Featherridge frame drum and a Kokopelli shaker played in real-time. Samples used here include an African shaker and a gong.
